Macs running 9.2.1 were available at $300, (think VIA's newer CPU's starting price), imagine how Apple's sales would jump. I still despair at the prices, wanting a fast Mac badly. The System Architects are no longer finding it lucrative to make new OSes. Linux is close, but is taking forever to even come to a level on par with Windows 95, where drivers and system compatibility are concerned. No one pays Linux tweakers. They do it when the madness hits them. IMHO it's closely positioned to give Microsot a run if it ran a larger driver library and allowed easier changes to hardware setups.
