Put in a bootable CD with a conservative older OS (like 8.6 or 9 or 9.1) and does it still happen? Start with a minimal Extensions set (adding only any Powerlogic extensions), still happen?
What Hard Disk, how big and how is it set up. Is there spare room on it? Defragged it lately?
