I second that emotion(!), regarding the battery...

I have a 7300/G3 Sonnet that crashed on startup (Bus error) every OTHER time 
I started it up. Crash-restart-Okay! ; Crash-restart-Okay! ; 
Crash-restart-Okay! ...

Trashing prefs, zapping PRAM nor rebuilding desktop helped...

Replacing the PRAM battery (which seemed to be working fine) finally fixed 
the madness.
