It's worth taking the back off and looking at the physical connections.

And I always use the arm-hair check on picture tubes. Power up the machine
and lay your arm close to the screen. If you feel the pull, the tube's
getting power, it then relates to the electronics on-board that create the
picture, OR brightness/contrast controls.
