Morning all,
I just subscribed to this list last night, so this is my first post in this forum.
To begin with, from newest to oldest, I have a Compaq Presario- 1.2 GHz a graphite iMac DV SE, a Powerbook 1400c/166 (233 mHz G3 in it), and finally a powermac 7500, DP 200 mHz 604einstalled currently, 144 megs RAM, OS 9.0.4.
The 7500 serves no use to me, except as a hobby, at least until now. A friend's PC has reached it's last leg, so I offered to let her use my 7500 until she can get a new computer.
As such, I have a renewed interest in adding upgrades to it in order to make it more user friendly. I was wonderingif anyone in here had any recomendations on what brands of internal modem I can get for it, and possibly a USB card as well. Also, I've been toying with the idea of a G3 upgrade as well, but I'm unsure which card to go with- preferably 300 mHz or greater, but I'm still undecided with which brand to get.
Any suggestions would be appreciated,
Brian
First I would suggest updating to OS 9.1 as it is more stable than 9.0.4. You will have to find an external modem, as internal PCI modems were not made for the Macintosh computers. Look for a used one that plugs into the Mac serial port. I used Supra brand modems for many years. As for USB cards, any 2 port "OHCI compliant" or "Mac compatible" card should work. One exception, if it says it is compatible with Beige G3 or later Macintosh computers then it probably wont work in the 7500. As for a G3 upgrade, I used NewerTech's (out of business) for many years but they tend to be finicky about memory. Sonnet and Powerlogix are currently making upgrades, and eBay is always an option.
