Wow.
Now I'm intrigued, especially since I have promised the NewerTech upgrade to a fellow 
Mac-user and an awaiting delivery of another Sonnet card for my 9600.
Specifically what resistor is this that wants to be removed and how did you find out 
about it? 
I'd hate to chew up a Daystar motherboard but I do have a spare 9500 Tsunami board 
that I picked up off eBay a few years ago.
 Is there an internet site that shows how to remove the cache-enabling resistor and 
indicates exactly what performance benefits will be achieved ? I don't recall seeing 
anything about surgery in the installation manuals from Sonnet, NewerTech, XLR8, and 
PowerLogix.
