The PCI bus in the machines is version 2.0 and is compatible with PC 2.0 PCI. However the current version is 2.2 with a 2.1 in between and some cards will not work in the older bus correctly. In addition, most cards have ROM on board that can be either PC or Mac but not both. Basically, unless it is know to work with the 9600, don't bother trying (unless you are into that type of testing.)
USB 2.0 is NOT supported under OS 9, only OS X.
Hi, people. I'm wondering about PowerPC 9600/300 PCI and RAM slots. The thing is that I'm considering an opportunity to buy a USB 2.0 card and RAM chips. What I was not sure about is if they are useful for my PowerPC. Someone told me that old PC RAM chips could work in my machine. I'm talking about Pentium II chips. Is that right? I mean, is there any particular specification for mac chips or you can use any chip that fits the specifications of the slot you requiere? By the way, what exactly are the RAM chips my computer needs? is it PC66 DIMM SDRAM 168-pin? must they be 70ns or 60ns? Regarding PCI slots I have a pretty similar question. What is the PCI slot voltage for 9600/300 machines? is the compatibility with mac due to drivers or is there any architecture difference between PC and MAC PCI cards?
That's it for now. Hope your answers.
Regards, Alejandro.
