For the sake of rebuttal, I've owned many 8500s and now one 9500 and here's how I simplify getting to the RAM, cache and battery:
1) Disconnect all cords.
2) Remove the case.
3) Remove the reset/programmer's switch.
4) Remove the phillips screw from the center of the motherboard.
5) Slide the motherboard forward.
6) Flip the motherboard, with cables still attached, up and over the top
of the
computer.
7) Work away.
