They tell everyone around here that it won't work with OS 9 either (Comcast) but we all know this is pure drivel.

"Cable is only for PCs?" Who is your local cable
provider?

Now, in Texas (Houston) I use DSL via SBC/Yahoo,
but in Georgia I use a cable
modem via Charter Cable. I remember when I got the
cable modem - back when I
knew nothing of high-speed internet - I was told
numerous times by the techs
at Charter Cable that their system did not work
with Macs.

However, a few local friends (and LEM listers)
assured me that, while all of
the software that accompanied/supported the cable
modem MAY be for PCs only,
as long as the modem was working and had an
ethernet connection it had to work
with a Mac.

Sure enough, the software was all PC, but since I
had a PC anyway at my home,
I use it to configure everything and then hooked a
router to the modem.
Voila! My Macs w/ etherent ports were of course
able to use it.

Nowadays, most high-speed modems seem to have the
web-page configuration
option anyway, using an IP address, as opposed to
actual software. SBC/Yahoo DSL
had both I believe. And if USB v. ethernet is the
problem, as your cable
provider if they can supply you with a modem for
ethernet connections. I think that
may have been an issue with Charter for me also,
as I remember having to
request a ethernet modem.

Finally, remember that some places like Best Buy
sell modems also. Be sure to
get one that works with your particular service.

Anyway, hope you find a solution,
