No, it's the mini-jack. Headphones and a set of unpowered speakers do work, but are awfully (but understandably) quiet. The mono speaker, though, does not work. A mono mini-plug should work when plugged in, because given the design of the plug, it should output the right stereo channel. Is the Mac socket different?
