Yes, I have SoundApp (great prgm eh?) and I did convert to system sound just
now I read your post. SoundApp first said the track was too big to convert,
so I edited a smaller bit in QT and then got SoundApp to convert this bit to
system sound. Plays fine but I am not sure what I need to set the sound
control panel parameters to record an alert from it. The obvious settings do
not work. For a start, unless I burn this to CD and play a CD and try what i
tried before (but this time in a format it may recognise) it is hard to
jiggle things: playing the sound file from the desktop for example prevents
the sound control panel box (with "record") from being active until the
sound file finishes playing by which it is too late...

Let's see now....Maybe I can just put the sound directly into the collection
of alert sounds. No need to record. Do all that in QT and SoundApp. Now,
where are these alerts kept... no, they don't show up in Sherlock (I
searched for Glass and Logjam and Simple Beep)...

Maybe Charlie is dead right and it is really only for the microphone...
