>I have a 233 MHz 604e card marked "9600 Only" running in a 7500 >as we speak.
Of course, there are always exceptions to the exceptions. Apple made certain components, mostly CPU cards and cache cards, to IBM's specification for the Power architecture. But there were exceptions for specific models. The 9600 and some 7200s, for example. However, just because Apple implemented certain fixes, usually a subtle timing change, in order to make an otherwise standard part work in a specific configuration, and, consequently, it marked that part "xxxx ONLY", doesn't mean it won't also work in other configurations. It only means that that part was specifically modified from the standard part for the specified configuration, and was intended only for that specified configuration. Should you be fortunate enough to get it to work in another configuration or configurations, so be it. But, that doesn't mean the card will work in any other than those for which it was specifically intended, and in those in which you specifically ran exhaustive tests. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
