>>Some may be active terminators. Not sure if the AMP one is, or is not. > >Thank you for explaining what they are used for and do. > >I still would like to see what they look like and continue to wonder if >there is a single ite which comprehensively details information about them.
A conventional terminator has 220 a ohm resister from each line (data bus or tag bus) to +5 volts and a 330 ohm resister to ground. This established each line as "Inactive High", as all lines are "Active Low". The reason you cannot place more than two terminators on a SCSI bus is each driver an "sink" only 48 milliamperes, and each terminator "sources" about 20 milliamperes, for a total of about 40. Put three terminators on the bus and the drivers would have to "sink" about 60 milliamperes, which they cannot do with any degree of reliability. See ... http://rocky.digikey.com/scripts/ProductInfo.dll?Site=US&V=17&M=869587-2 ... for more details. Since these terminators list for $39, and since you can get a Q950 for free or nearly-free, it's perhaps best to get a used one. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
