In the wee hour of 04:53 PM 7/22/01 +0800, Debbie bequeathed such tales as
these:
>After being on the internet for some years with no major problems, I have
>now come across a huge problem.
>I can get online but am unable to receive or send email or open any web
>pages. I spoke to my provider and was talked through a few things and still
>hasn't rectified the problem. I have a screen that comes up saying cannot
>find the server? My provider has informed me that I would need a technician
>to come out at a charge to fix this. What is my problem and can anyone
>help?
Does your ISP provide specific DNS settings (Domain Name Servers)? Windows
sometimes forget settings like these, and you end up with a problem exactly
like yours where you can connect but you can't do anything once you are
there. If you are on win98 then go to Start / Programs / Accessories /
Communications / Dial-up Networking / and right click on the entry you have
for your ISP. In the menu that pops up choose properties then the Server
Types tab, at the bottom the this screen choose TCP/IP Settings... and
check to make sure whether there is entries for the primary and secondary
addresses. Unless your provider has only one server, and most have many,
then you should have entries here. HTH
