Jeff......I'm not sure why this "autoformatting" is happening.....it must be
something that's coming in with the file?......if you open a blank Excel
sheet and manually type in one of these numbers, does Excel try to turn it
into a date? what does the number look like?

one thing you can do is, AFTER you bring the data in, click on the little
gray square in the upper left corner of your spreadsheet where the columns
and rows meet........between A and 1....this will select all of your
cells....then go to the Edit Menu and choose Clear>Formats

Subject: PCWorks: More trouble with Excell formatting

Good day,
Thanks to a lot of you, I do know how to format the cells for each new
program I do.
What I really need to know, is there a way to turn off this auto format as a
default.
I have WDB files that I save as CSV.
When I open these up in a text viewer all is fine.
If I click on the CSV, Excel opens, but the file will not. I get no table
view at all.
If I drag the CSV file into the blank portion of the Excel window it will
open, but the cells are 'auto-formatted to dates and other formulas it
recognizes.
I have a program that I import these to, but can only import with the commas
separating the fields
I need the default option in Excel to stop auto-formatting these fields.
I really hope I explained this enough.
Thank you.
Jeff
