MS has addressed this here 
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/administration/management/mltiboot.asp 
as it is the safest scenario with XP. Another good piece is here 
http://www.8wire.com/articles/?AID=2304&Page=1 though it deals with a dual 
win2k/xp setup the same rules apply.
