Generally for consumer broadband service DSL is slower than cable. There are some xDSL business offerings in the range of 8-10 mbps download and upload but these are expensive, not as expensive as a T1 but still out of most people's budget. If anyone is interested Microsoft is still bidding for ownership of AT&T broadband in the US. Should be interesting security wise ;-) Happy holidays.
