Sure, there's a limit, they all have a finite number of slots and MB's per stick. But, it's Impossible to tell you what they are without knowing the motherboard's make and model number. You need to find that, then go to the manufacturer's website to see what it's memory limitations/support are. All INTERNAL desktop hard drives made for desktop PC's are 3.5" in width (this has nothing to do with the amount of RAM support). The exceptions are a few oddball server configurations or some serious proprietary hardware. Some external units as well or not 3.5" in width. Although an operating system has it memory requirements for most efficient operation, it too is not indicative of how much RAM you have. With win98 you could have as little as 8mb or even less (although not a very fast or stable platform) up to I would say a gigabyte or more. This only depends on how much a user wants to add, then of course the final 'word' is on the motherboard's memory support. I guess the *theoretical* limit would be the number of slots (in your case, probably either 72 or 168 pin) x the minimum amount of megabytes that particular type of memory comes in per stick. The maximum theoretical limit of course would be the opposite.
So, in short, look at your manual, or if you don't have one, find out the make and model # then go to their respective website and look it up. 128mb is nice figure for typical PC use. 256mb if you do more multitasking. Some get by just fine with only 32mb.
