Yeah Vic, I tried that and it opened FULL screen, not
maximized on this PC (IE 5.01). I've always been able to
right click the IE icon on the quick launch toolbar and go to
'properties' then select "maximized" and that would work, but
ONLY for clicking the blue e icon, it never had any affect on
shortcuts or links.

We've tried all those things here at the list. This thread
has come and gone countless times over the past few years and
nothing would work, no registry hacks, no programs, no batch
files, nothing. :( I have even tried all those registry
hacks I've found all over the net, and none worked. What you
suggest and what others have suggested will not open it
FULLY, that's FULLY in a TRUE REAL MAXIMIZED window (like I
described in post below). The keywords here are TRUE & REAL
maximized. Look at these screen shots. So we're all talking
about the same thing, "fullscreen" of course is full screen
as you can see. Note the "maximized" screen shot and look at
the extreme upper right at the 'double rectangle' I mentioned
below. This is TRUE maximized, it cannot be maximized any
more. Now look at the pseudo-maximized shot. This is what
happens using those methods you mentioned and what others
have mentioned. Note the border around the entire perimeter
of the browser window and you can see the desktop around the
edge, as well as the 'square' being at upper right where the
double rectangle should be. This is indicative of NOT being
maximized of course. Even repeated 'dragging' of the handle
and lower right will not fix it permanently, it will only fix
it temporarily for the current window.

The second link is what we are striving for without the use
of any 3rd party software. I have had this problem for years
now, on EVERY COMPUTER I have used, seen, or built that uses
IE 5+.

There is no area in the properties for a shortcut pertaining
to it's window size, at least none I see on IE 5.01 SP2.
What other 'properties' area are you speaking of?

No, the /max switch starts a window MAXIMIZED, not full
screen. Try it and you'll see.
I was answering this question:
> When I open IE 5.5 it opens in a non maximized window.
>
> How do I make it open Maximized ?

What I said was for that - to open IE maximized, not
shorcuts to it.
You can always have a shortcut run maximized
by setting it to do so in Properties
If stretching the window to max size with the mouse doesn't
works for your
url
shortcuts and OE links, try this:
Open up IE to a page with some urls on it. Stretch it to the
max size you
want.
Then right click any url on the page and choose Open Link in
New Window
Now close the first page and then use your mouse to stretch
the new
window.to maximized size.
Once maxed, close it.
>From then on, IE and all new windows should open maximized.

Something else that works, is this.
Have the non maximized window open. Close any other windows.
Then right click the taskbar and choose Tile Horizontally.
The window should then open to a maximize size.

If nothing works, then it's a reg problem.
The window size is controlled by the window placement value
at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
The value for a maximized window is
hex:2c,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,\
ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,80,02,0
0,00,c4,01,00,\
00

Delete the windows placement value, as well as this key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Desktop\Old WorkAreas

Then reboot. Both will be newly recreated.
If you want to be assured of always opening a window max you
can use this
reg file I made for IE 5.5 Place it in your startup folder or
run it from a
reg run key.
All it does is set the window placement to max so that
whenever you launch
IE, it will start maximized.
Not sure if it will transfer correctly in this emaill, so
unless you're
familiar with the registry. don't try it. Email me instead,
and I can send
it premade.
If anyone who doesn't have the problem wants to test it, just
export the
value to a reg file.
Then resize your window to a smaller size so that it no
longer opens
maximized.
Then double click the reg file, refresh and open IE again.
It should now open maximized.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]

"Window_Placement"=hex:2c,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,ff
,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff
,\

ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,ff,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,80,02,0
0,00,c4,01,00,\
 00

Having said all that, I have yet to come accross an IE window
size problem
that couldn't be fixed and in most cases the simpler methods
work.
