Larry. That's not true in my case. If I simply format the cell as plain text BEFORE I type in 25E5, then it displays 25E5 just fine. I just did it again to make sure. If I put 25E5 in there first, THEN format it as text, it does not work...but if I put it in AFTER I format it as text, it does work. No need to use the old apostrophe trick here...and I tried it on all my installations...Excel 97, 2000, and 2002 and it worked just fine in every case, as long as I formatted the cell as text BEFORE I entered 25E5

Linda Linda, You can not just format for text and have 25E5 work. The reason is that E to Excel means exponent is coming next and Excel treats that as scientific notation. It will produce 2.5 x 10 to the 6 power or with different formatting it will produce the number 2,500,000. One way to solve this is to use the apostrophe before the entry.
