Ok then everything I said will work for *other icons*. FYI, one thing I left out is you can go to the 'file types' tab in 'folder options' and you can scroll through that list and select file types and change their icons there. I'm not on a win98 PC now, and it's different from ME, but you should be able to figure that out, just click the buttons; 'edit', 'change' or 'advanced' and you'll see an area to change icons.
Now if you are right clicking and "new.........folder", and want to change those and make them DIFFERENT icons, you'll need some 3rd party software I believe. Also that method I just mentioned above will change ALL icons for a specific file as well. If you want to change only ONE folder icon, you can't, they all will be the same. That's why you need another program to add "change icon" to the right-click context menu. I used to have the program, but don't anymore and I can't recall it's name, but the ones I used were free. Unless someone knows the names of them, you'll have to go to a software download site and search for things like 'icons', 'folder icons', etc. Ok I THINK I remember one of them now, it was called "Easy Icons". You know you can create as many Quick Launch toolbars as you want, you don't have to keep shortcuts in a folder. -Clint God Bless Us All Clint Hamilton, Owner http://OrpheusComputing.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cindy Pavey" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I am using Win98. The icons I want to change are the ones you make on your desktop using "New Folder". I have a folder that I've named "Tools" into which I've put a number of Windows tools shortcuts. I have a number of other folders on my desktop that all look the same and I'd like to change the icon from the folder to a different icon. I know how to change shortcut icons but they usually look like the program so I don't need to. It's just these generic folders that I want to change. When I try to change it in 'display properties' it will let me navigate to it but won't let me change it, just whatever is inside of it. What am I missing? TIA, Cindy Date: Mon, 30 Sep 2002 03:06:04 -0500 From: "OrpheusComputing.com" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: PCWorks: Desktop Icons Well first we need to know what OS you're using. So, without knowing that, I can only speak for win98 & ME. Depends on just which icons you want to change. First, put your icons you've created in a folder. Then on some icons (particularly shortcut icons) you can right click and go to 'properties' then change icon, then nav. to your folder to select. Most windows icons are in the shell32.dll file, some are in 'explorer.exe'. You cannot open them by clicking them to see the icons, and I don't know how to add icons to them, I've never tried. But you don't really need to because you just nav. to those files to change an icon, and when you nav. to them, they will open and display the available icons. For other system icons, just go to 'display properties' and the 'effects' tab, and at the top you'll see 'change icon'. The when you click the button, nav. to your new folder (or shell32.dll, or explorer.exe, etc.). Shell32.dll is in the Windows 'system' folder. You can find other icons that are already on you PC that you probably don't know about by searching for *.ico but mind you the icons that are within explorer.exe and shell32.dll will not show up that way. - -Clint - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cindy Pavey" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I have a program that allows me to make icons.
