In Win 98, you need third party software to change folder
icons...Windows XP allows you to do this, but not the earlier
versions...in Win 98, the only icons you can change are shortcuts (I
believe)

Search the internet and you should find lots of freeware/shareware that
lets you change folder icons.

Subject: PCWorks: Re: pcworks-Desktop Icons

I am using Win98. The icons I want to change are the ones you make on
your desktop using "New Folder". I have a folder that I've named
"Tools"
into which I've put a number of Windows tools shortcuts. I have a
number
of other folders on my desktop that all look the same and I'd like to
change the icon from the folder to a different icon. I know how to
change
shortcut icons but they usually look like the program so I don't need
to.
It's just these generic folders that I want to change. When I try to
change it in 'display properties' it will let me navigate to it but
won't
let me change it, just whatever is inside of it. What am I missing?

TIA,
Cindy
