I was made aware of it when running scan disk on a win 98 machine last 
week. After 10 minutes the Microsoft Channel Screensaver starts up, I 
thought it was a fluke so I restarted into safe mode again and it started 
just the same. Same with all the other's except the open gl screensavers.

I've never known a screensaver to function in safe mode.  :)

as it runs in Safe and Normal modes.  I run ScanDisk followed by Disk
Defragmenter in Safe Mode for Win9x/Me.
