Jeff,

I have the services he recommends disabled on my systems, they are reflected in other lists around the web, and I have not had any difficulties so far <knock on wood!>. Some I have re-enabled for specific uses I require.

One useful site for a safe XP is: http://www.uksecurityonline.com/husdg/wxpp2.php with many good points beyond services and all is well explained and friendly.

Al services use up memory but as most systems nowadays have 256 mb or more installed you don't notice these much unless you have 128 mb or less installed and you have onboard video too.

Thanks Peter, that is the one...DO NOT disable the ones he recommends...when I did, I could not even
connect to the Internet.
Clint, All those Remote ones are automatic now..I figured out I needed those.
It seems to only affect my network, checking other computers and using the DSL at the house where three
PC's are networked.
I can't say disabling these sped up my computer, but it did free up some space.

Jeff, I think you might be referring to the Viper site http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/service411.htm. If you go to this link you will see a clear explanation of all the services and what each one does and which one's he recommends disabling or restricting.
