I have a client who has Win98 SE Pentium3. She has ADSL which connects without trouble.
Her problem is Outlook Express. She can receive regular mail, she can receive mail with attachments. She can send regular mail, but cannot send mail with attachments, they just don't go and she gets an error message that there is a problem with her SMTP.
In OE have her check Tools/Accounts/Mail/Properties/ Servers
Is an outgoing SMTP server defined?
It is usually something like mail.domain.name or smtp.domain.name Contact ISP for details
Does her server require authentication? If so, all the details correct?
Next, click on Advanced tab Is the Outgoing mail SMPT port 25? (It better be!!!)
Next, Tools/Options/Send
Under mail sending format, is HTML checked or plain text?
Personally, I recommend plain text because I hate to receive HTML e-mail
In either case, check settings
For HTML make sure encoding is Base64 (anybody can read it, QP is only for MS junk)
For Plain Text, I prefer message format to be Uuencoded BUT she may want to use MIME and then Base64 encoding.
I think this covers it :>)
