Ben
I followed your instructions to a Tee...
I had removed the Master Cook program.. reinstalled it..
unchecked all the unnecessary things at start up..
The program still tells me that.. resources are low..
At this time I think it is a glitch in the software.. I am
looking for the latest version of Master Cook 7.0.. but
have not been able to find it yet..
Thanks so much..
I now have another problem I am dealing with.. it's my
scanner.. will write about that in another post.. sigh..

Thanks
Liz

I don't see any reason that the program won't run. You hardware is great.
Your resources are a little low at start up but not extremely low. Try
going to run on your start menu and typing in msconfig. you'll get a dialog
window with a bunch of tabs on it. Go to the start up tab and try
identifying what those programs are and then unchecking one at a time and
rebooting and then trying your program. Things like system tray and power
profile you need to leave running. If you just installed a new mouse and it
had software that came with it, that program should be listed there. Try
unchecking that too. I'm not sure that is going to find the cause but it's
something to try. Have you added a whole bunch of recipes to Mastercook?
Is you data file very large?

I working from a very poor memory here of Win98 but some of the guys that do
have Win98 currently should be checking in later.

Just to answer your question about WinXP. With your hardware I think you
would be better off running WinXP. It is a significantly better OS than any
of the Win9x systems. Unless you have some program that requires Win98 I
can't see any reason not to upgrade. You don't get low resource warnings
either. But to install it and do it right you really need to start fresh
and reinstall everything which is a real pain. I think we ought to try to
fix this first.

It did work at one time, I'm assuming. Either there is something wrong with
the program or you have too much stuff loading at boot.
Have you installed anything new lately, just before this started happening?
Have you tried reinstalling MasterCook?

Reboot your computer and when it's completely up, type ctrl, alt, del and you
should get a list of running programs. Why don't you send us a list of
those?

You should also have a program called resource manager somewhere on your
start menu. Right after you boot. Start it and let us know what it says.

One other possibility, your database in Mastercook just may be too big.

It might help to know a bit about your hardware, processor, memory, HD's and
free space.

What happens when you reboot your computer and try to use Mastercook
before
doing anything else? Can you import and export then?

  Hi All..
I am not very computer savvy.. I will need step
  by step help.. LOL..

I am having problems using my MasterCook 6.0 program..
I am able to open it up.. up can not import or export recipes..
or open the ones that are already on the program.
There is a screen that comes up when I try to use.. saying
that my resources are dangerously low..
Does anyone know how I can resolve this problem..
I have thousands of recipes on this program and can
no longer get to them.. sigh..

Also I am using Windows 98SE.. Will switching to
XP help my problem.. if so.. How do I go about switching
operating systems.. will everything on the old automatically
switch over to the new O.S.? Where is the best place to
  buy XP from??

Thanks so much for your help..
