Hi Jeff and all,

As far as I know, all inkjet printers use cartridges that communicate
electronically with the printer. Some new cartridges have bad circuitry
and need to be replaced. Sometimes it is the mainboard in the printer
that is no longer fully function. With the price of inkjets being so
low, it usually(/always) too expensive to replace the mainboard versus
buying a new printer (which occasionally have bad mainboards).

HTH,
Chuck
