Are you obsessed with ink jet? Cheap initial, high operating. I switched to
color laser, now that they are down around $500, and am thrilled with it.
There are several good ones out there. I chose the OKI (technically a LED
rather than a laser) for the speed and cost. And was delighted with the
quality (go for BEST rather than NORMAL on photos), especially on plain
paper.

Then what I did was keep my old ink jet, as the laser printer does not do
everything, such as tee shirt transfers (last time I did any of those was in
2000).

For that matter, I used to print a lot more than I do now. Toner keeps. Ink
carts do not, once they have been opened. Nothing like needing the printer a
few months after installing new cartridges, and finding they are dried up.
You obviously know how much that costs.
