Hi Dale, there is nothing like a "gap" in the folder structure, a folder exist or not, that's all.
AVG is as good or better than Mc Afee, besides that, there is no reason why you should
be getting a virus after the other.... I haven`t had a single virus in my HDs for a long time.
Of course I do not open unknown attachments and the like.. The same with spyware,
I catch something once in a blue moon.. Besides that, my email host improved greatly
the virus detection and filtering.
If you do not like AVG, you can download ANTIVIR, which works fine for me, a simple
google search will send you to their web page.
When ME has been slowed down to such extent, there MUST be something executing
in the background and consuming most of the CPU time. You did not tell what happened
when you tried safe mode. Just in case go to msconfig and disable all the startup items.
You need none. Check system.ini and win.ini as well.
In the mean time, pres win (logo) and pause at the same time and see what4s the
percent resources you have left. And go to the task manager and see how many tasks
are being executed. If you find more than five or six, kill the ones you do not need
and see what happens (you won't see every program being executed, but more than
half a dozen means you have to go to msconfig and WIPE whatever you don't need)

Nevertheless, I am afraid you'll end up reformatting and upgrading, it seems
ME is too messed up to go on running reliably..and if you go to XP you'll notice
the difference is PROFOUND..
good luck
Jorge

But it was never there before and I could always delete everything in
the Temp folder before this.

I think Ed, my techie, may have already done that. I saw him open the
window used to get to that and I know he took away a lot of my tray icons.

(and check if something is running fron the .inis as well. After restarting,

But a few times I've run McAfee and it caught things AVG didn't. AVG
hasn't caught a thing in about 16 months. I suspect it's not running
completely up to snuff. Can someone resend me the free AVG again? That's how I got
it the first time. A friend in England sent it to me because Norton wasn't
catching anything. As soon as I ran AVG the first time it caught 2 viruses!! It
picked up at least 7 or 8 more after that, but once I got rid of the old hard
drive, it hasn't caught a thing since. McAfee has picked up three viruses
since I started using it a few months or so ago.

Thanks for the help. I'll try this and see what happens.
By the way, I started the anti-spy at 3:30 yesterday (Wed.), it's STILL
running and is only up to nearly halfway done. It's 3:00 a.m. (Fri.).
However, I've noticed that it usually catches Apropos at about the 13000 mark, but
it's up past 15000 and still hasn't caught anything!
