There is Thunderbird http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/ which does most if not everything Outlook can do. Plus if you install the Calendar http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/ then you are quite equal with Outlook.

It has excellent spam filters and great security features and is free, while Outlook is not. It is very stable, I've never had a crash or lost folders/files during compacts either.

No, there were no +'s in the folder tree so it was just plain GONE.

I didn't think to check the OE storage folder to see if it was still there. I had an OE backup from 12-26 from which I restored the "Customers" folder. So, I got back some email but not any new email since then.

I've HAD IT with these OE **** ups. It sometimes crashes when I compact folders and even deletes folders sometimes when it does that, it crashes when I close it, and now it's deleting folders. This is after NEW FORMATS, SP1, SP2, no updates, all updates, doesn't matter. It just plain s*cks. I CANNOT be the only person having these problems with it. It's all set to default. The only tweak I have ever done to OE is get rid of the splash screen, and I know that's not going to cause these problems. I don't even have any message rules. So, I'm at a TOTAL and COMPLETE loss. Yeah, I think you can guess what "POS" means. :-)

Is Outlook any more stable that OE? I hear it has fewer features.

Did you inadvertently drag in inside another folder? I've done that. It's
easy to do. Hope you didn't drag it inside the deleted items folder.

Does the folder show up as a dbx file in the Outlook Express folder at all?
If it doesn't then it's gone but usually things just don't disappear.

I've been using Outlook ever since Office 2003 came out. MS finally got
most of it right. I never liked it before.

I assume POS means point of sale. ;-)

Well this POS OE and its problems and screw-ups never stop. I just realized to my horror, a folder I created in OE is GONE! It just disappeared! It was my "Customers" folder, so of course ALL email that was in it is gone! I created other folders and they are all ok. So what the hell happened to this folder that would only affect it and not the other custom folders I created? How can this even happen? I don't supposed there's anyway to get it back? -Clint
