Hi Paul, ZIP files are ordinary files that have been run through an archive and compression program called "WinZip" in order to make them smaller for purposes of archiving or transmission to another location. Windows XP includes support for WinZip, but if you have an earlier version of Windows, you need to install WinZip in order to create or open (called "zipping" and "unzipping") your files. You can get WinZip here: www.winzip.com/ Might I suggest though, that before you do anything else you run through the basic Help file that came with your version of Windows, or alternatively, get any one of dozens of basic Windows "How To" books from your local bookstore. Basic tasks like changing the program that opens a file, or zipping/unzipping files, are not anything to do with PDF or this list -- they are part of your computer's basic operating procedures. Without a basic intro to using Windows you are running a risk of screwing things up beyond all recognition. To view the Help files that came with your version of Windows, open the Windows Explorer (NOT Internet Explorer), or click on your My Computer icon and then click the Help command. -- Mike West Melbourne, Australia To change your subscription: http://www.pdfzone.com/discussions/lists-pdfbasics.html
