Hi Leonard
Thanks for responding, my system is PC running Windows 2000, Acrobat 4 and Quark 4.1. I tried with Distiller but that didn't work either as the Cyrillic letters were replaced with symbols rather than question marks. In the original Word doc, the Cyrillic text was Ariel as the rest was, but a code page varient. When this came into Quark it changed to symbols which I then changed to Ariel CYR to enable the Russian to be displayed.
Does that help?
Thanks for your time
Peter

Say no more!
DO NOT USE PDFWRITER WITH QUARK - EVER!!!
Quark speaks Postscript, PDFWriter speaks GDI/QD - they aren't compatible.
Use Distiller instead!!!
You also don't mention what version of Quark, what version of Acrobat and what OS platform...
