Greetings all,

We have just migrated to XP Professional. We now have PageMaker 7.01 and
still have Acrobat 5.05. Acrobat Reader was first installed, then full
Acrobat and finally PM7 (if that makes a difference). When we export a PM
file to PDF it gets created with "Standard Security". This prevents you from
importing that PDF into another one until you open the first and remove the
security then save the file. PM Help says the specific kind of 'encryption'
that it uses when making the PDF is based on the Compatibility choice you
make in Distiller under Job Options. When we were using PM6.52 with Acro
5.05 on an NT O/S this automatic security thing didn't happen. At this point
in the production of the overall final PDF we don't want any security to be
on in the file. We have multiple PDFs to make from PM that must be imported
into a large PDF that's made by another entity. We don't want to have to
open each PDF as we export it from PM and manually turn off the security. I
can find no way within Distiller or PM to shut off this function. It almost
appears to be a "feature". How do we stop having this happen? How do we
start having PDFs exported from PM that get no security at all?

Thanks,

Alan Fisher
