I asked Suzette to send me a PDF so I could look at it with Acrobat 6.

What she's done is try to add text with the text commenting tool in Acrobat
5 on top of a scanned image saved in PDF format. The text is appearing as
25% black. I don't have Acro 5, but Suzette claims that she doesn't have the
same opacity slider that I have in version 6.

Here are protential solutions:

1. Upgrade to Acro 6.

2. Look in PREFERENCES > COMMENTING and see if there is something relating
to the opacity of text in text comment boxes.

3. Use the text touch-up tool to create the text. For Windows hold down the
Control key while using the text touch-up tool to add text. The
characteristics of the text can be changed by using the hand tool and
right-clicking on the added text to bring up the properties box.

4. Place the PDF in a page-layout program to add the text, and make a new
PDF file.

5. Buy Pitstop (www.enfocus.com). This solution, however, is overkill for
this particular problem.

Best solutions: #3 or #4.

Hope this helps.

Rich

The Free Text Properties box does not have an opacity slider. Is it
somewhere else?

You're talking about the Text Box tool that is meant for commenting. The
text color is going to be black. You can lighten the color by sliding the
opacity bar in properties. If this is set at less than 100%, that may be
your problem.

No...I'm using the FreeText Tool. The T with the plus symbol (Acrobat 5).
The fill color is not selected but the color in the box is gray. If I select
fill color (and check the box), than the whole box is shaded in gray. How do
you change the actual text color??

I assume you are referring to the text touch-up tool?

If you highlight the text you typed, and right click, you should be able to
choose a PROPERTIES dialog box that will show you your text color.
When you do this, what do you see as the fill color?

Can anyone help with the previously posted problem(below)???

-----Original Message-----

Hi, I'm new to the list. I am using Acrobat 5/Windows 2000 on a PC.

My problem has only occurred recently. Whenever I use the Free Text Tool,
whatever color I choose looks right while I'm typing but then when I leave
the active box, it looks very light. For example, if I choose black, the
text looks black while I type but when I leave the box it looks and prints
in gray. Have any of you ever come across this problem?
This problem occurs even on my own PDF documents that do not have any
security settings.

Thanks much for any help!
