Hi Glenn,

The embedded fonts used for the Arabic text contains no .notdef
character. A .notdef character is recommended for all TrueType fonts.
This is subset error produced by Ghostscript (a CMAP cannot work
correctly if the .notdef character is absent).

Of course, Acrobat 4 or 5 can open the document with no errors, but on
my system, Acrobat 6 is unable to extract the font. Gsview is also
unable to display the text.

There are some differences in the font processing between Acrobat 4, 5
and 6. Acrobat 4 can solve many font problems, Acrobat 6 not.

Try to tell your client that Ghostscript is not the right Program to
produce PDF files for the Middle Eastern. Acrobat is also available for
the Middle Eastern, this should be the right solution.

Hey,

I dont know if this is the right forum to ask this question, but I am
trying
anyway.

A client of mine is sending me a PDF file which doesnt show Arabic
writing.
The original document was written (mostly) in Arabic but somehow in the
conversion process, the Arabic writing is left out.

The file is at www.folkvord.net/arabic.pdf if it helps to look at it.

I have Acrobat 5, the full suite. Can the version I am using vs. the
version
who created the file have compability issues? I have previously viewed
fine
a Kurdish PDF by the same client, which also has unusual fonts in it, so
I
dont think it is that.
