         NEVER do that - unless you can be 100% certain that the fonts used
on the Mac are being properly embedded in the PDF, since otherwise you will 
end up with font problems.   It is ALWAYS safer to distiller on the same
machine you print on.

                   For the everyday person, you're absolutely right.
However, I've been making bulletproof PDFs for six years (since Acrobat 3),
and long before Adobe offered job options in Distiller "and" made the
default settings in Press to embed and subset fonts. I also don't use fonts
that have font embedding restrictions.
