Simon,

At my newspaper our RIPs use Harlequin ScriptWorks v5.3R1 (Actually I believe
the software is 'APS Grafix RIP'). This software handles CID encoded fonts
just fine, IF the PDF is printed from Acrobat 4.05. When we print the very
same PDF from Acrobat 5.05, the RIP throws an error. However, if Acrobat
5.05 creates an EPS which is then embedded into Quark 4.11, it also prints
fine. (The Acrobat software is running under MAC OS 9.22, Quark is running
under the same as well as v4.11 for the PC under Win2000.)

Agfa has told me that this is a known problem that was fixed in a newer
version of their RIP software.

All: Anyone have any particular instances of this problem ie anecdotal
evidence that I can use to point out where, exactly, the problem lies?
Specific software packages, RIPs or prepress suggestions would be good so
that I can take this issue back to them on a technical footing.
