With Panther it is also possible to have Postscript come in the front end of the process, which is then converted to PDF and then continues down the rest of the path.

As to my tests, applications like Photoshop (7 and CS), Freehand (MX), InDesign (2) and so on, follows the way PICTwPS -> raster in Jaguar, and PDF -> raster in Panther.

Correct, because none of them have been updated ot support the new functionality in Panther.

Can you tell me an application that generates PostScript for a raster printer in Panther? Or it is only a theoretical possibility?

Acrobat 6.0.1...

In my tests, Acrobat 6.0.1 in Panther sends PostScript for the *raster* path also. Can you confirm?

Correct - because there is now a PS->PDF conversion engine in the OS, so it can send the PS, which CUPS can either convert to PDF and then rasterize and then send to the printer.
