n the cups log file I can see that printing from (Panther and) Acrobat 6.0.1 to a raster printer with CUPS driver the applied filters are
PICTwPS2PS,

This is the path or sending PS directly to CUPS, with a stop in the PS normalizer...

What has Normalizer to do when creating PS from Acrobat? I think the pstopdffilter is the one where cups is using the integrated normalizer engine

Isn't PICTwPS2PS used when an application is generating it's own postscript code using the laserwriter8 features of the printerdriver?

This is my question also.

I think the printing path of Acrobat 6.0.1 in Panther (raster CUPS printer) is the same as prepress applications (Photoshop, FreeHand, Illustrator, Quark, etc.) in Jaguar, i.e.

PICTwPS -> PS -> raster -> printer-specific raster -> printer backend

Now in Panther prepress applications follows the path

PDF -> raster -> printer-specific raster -> printer backend

but Acrobat 6.0.1 prints the other way (and in fact don't support Save PDF nor Preview).

Thanks
