I was assuming, perhaps naively, that some common sense would come into play. "First, Illustrator is NOT, repeat NOT, a general purpose PDF editor. Using Illustrator for this task is dangerous ". And I'll agree with that too. But if that is the only option, and the document is fairly simple, and you pay attention, you can pull this off. But yes, only as last resort, and surly not with a 200 page doc. My suggestions are based on things that have worked in our production envirnment. Of course, our first choice would be PittStop, and that is what we use. But if one does not see enough of this sort of thing to justify buying it, or even the reasonably price QBT, then these are just some other possible solutions. They all come with their own risks.
