In Preps, you have a choice to convert to Postscript or not.
I use the PDF IN-PDF OUT setting, using the Adobe Acrobat Converter setting to send the file to the RIP correctly.
To answer another question, yes Preps supports transparency, as you can superimpose or "double-burn" files together, as long as the original files' backgrounds are transparent.
Our RIPs and AGFA Avantra Film Imagesetters have been upgraded to handle PDFs as well.

I realize that it supports PDF in - that's not the question...

The question is whether Preps CONVERTS the PDF to Postscript and
then imposes the Postscript - OR if it works like Quite Imposing or PDF
Snake and actually imposes the PDF natively.

In other words, if you feed Preps a PDF document with something in
it that PS can't represent (say Transparency) - what will it do??
