Thanks Elly, and everyone else who has responded, I hope everyone will
take a look at this message too... because I'm close to completely
stalled on problem-solving this difficulty.
Further enquiries - here is what I have found:
1- thought the copy of reader in the CD staging area might be corrupt so
I re-installed 5.0.5 direct to the folder. Made a CD, the same result.
Reader opens from somewhere on the HD and displays the pdf content from
the CD fine except with wrong prefs.
2- installed Reader 5.1 in a duplicate of the CD staging area. made a
CD. Reader 5.1 appears to run from the CD but not with the saved
preferences. I suspect, due to the amount of HD activity, that it is
running the copy of Reader 5.1 from the staging area. This seems
possible for 1. above too.
3- similar behaviour on the W98 install on this machine that does not
have access to the CD staging area. Reader from the HD content from the CD.
3a- uninstalled Acrobat 4 and 5 from the W98 sector of this machine. The
CD still finds on the HD (four partions) a copy of reader to open (there
could be several, from other projects)
4- similar behaviour on a user's W2K machine where 5.1 opened and
displayed the pdf OK but had the local instal of reader's prefs.
A reminder, I don't have any problem getting a CD to run and display the
pdf content... the issue is how to ensure that only the Reader on the CD
is used.
Any further suggestions for probem-solving this would be greatly
appreciated.
Denis
