I know this does not answer your question but I bought an MZ-M about a month
ago to attach the 40mm/2.8 pancake which I had but was used less. This is
not quite in a P&S category but it is extremely compact and light. I did
not have a 35mm compact P&S camera and had a look at various models for the
same reason as yours (just carry around more of the time in a more casual
manner). When I handled the MZ-M at a store, it felt so compact and
extremely light. With this set up, I can carry it around all the time, or
throw it into a globe box of my car or into a brief case without worrying
about scratching etc. No neck strap but just a hand strap. This way, my
40/2.8 gets used all the time, and this lens of this focal length and speed
is ideal for snap shooting. It is even pocketable in a loose pair of pants
without bulging it too much. But I do not find myself carrying the camera
(or any camera however small it may be) too often in a pocket anyway. It's
always on a car seat or in some kind of bag. I can basically abuse it till
it becomes junk which will be a long time away. I am very happy with this
as it gives me a complete control in a reasonably small package (controls
are similar to my MZ-3), not quite like a real compact P&S but close enough.
Other than that, I use a Canon Elph Jr (APS) which is a real pocketable
camera with superb result (I still do not put it in a pocket :-).
Cheers,
Ken
