Hello all.
I've been a Spotmatic SP user for some time. Recently I bought a black
Spotmatic
F in good working order but somewhat brassed from a dealer extremely
cheaply. The camera is fitted with a 50mm f1.8 Meyer Oreston lens.
I find that everything seems to work fine. But I note something unusual.
When I screw in a SMS Takumar 55mm f1.8 from an ES-II the small metal block
on the back of the lens mount engages a cam inside the camera body and
switches the camera meter on as it settles into place. It seems impossible
to switch the meter off after that. In other words, the meter stays on all
the time, even if the stop-down metering switch on the front is in the
"off" position. I notice the ES-II has a similar arrangement: however I
obtained mine with a defective metering system and never had it repaired so
I don't understand the purpose of this arrangement.
Does the meter stay on when this lens is in place? What about battery
drain? What is the point of designing the metering system in this manner?
Anyone have any experience and comments on the Meyer Oreston lens? I have
not as yet seen results from the camera. I do have two Pentacon 50mm f1.8
lenses which appear to be quite good (for my purposes anyhow).
