It certainly a posibility but theres also a similar preference for P&S everywhere.I
simply don't believe that there any camera sales demographic between western nations.
Everybody has point and shoot cameras in Europe and its not for art sake but for
recording familiy event, holidays etc. Nor have I the impression that artsy
photography or indeed photography as a hobby is more widespread over here than in the
US.

Regardless, its rather futile to discuss the reason why the sales number is as they
are. That was not really the point here.
The point was the relative importance of the US market.

The fact remains, for whatever reason, that the largest market for slr's (which was
the context this was discussed in - the original post was a direct response on someone
believing that user input may have had an effect on the MZ-S - but where the poster
starting the thread argued for that americans was not important) is the EU. I believe
the largest market for Pentax is Europe; that is whats under Pentax Belgium; which is
the headquarter for Europe. This means even larger than EU alone since it also include
non-EU countries.
I will also argue, again in the context above, that Japan is the second most important
market. Because the japanese buy a significant number of expensive cameras. Probably
more than anyone else.
These are pretty much the facts; not beliefs.
So I disagree with the original poster that the american consumer is being ignored,
but I do agree that he is probably not the most important one.

BTW Nobody drives a Vespa to impress the girls here; almost every 18 year old have a
car; just like in the US.
