Here I go again! :-)

Jumping WAY back to Pentax cameras, and a statement proffered previously by
someone that USA bound Pentaxes are named/spec'd differently because of
something the manufacturer feels about the market, or some such. Trash.

The contract between Pentax USA and Pentax Japan is centered around some kinda
protectionist import restrictions that cause Pentax USA to refuse to honor the
warranties of cameras sold anywhere other than the USA. To try to protect
themselves from the "gray marketers," Pentax USA has a different name or model
designation on their imports. And sometimes they are spec'd with slight
variations in appearance or feature, for both the same reason, or to hit a
price point that the Pentax USA feels is important.

My understanding of this phenomenon, subject to correction or outright denial
by anyone who claims to know the "truth."
