This ain't Shel, but I think the takumars were built to be the
highest quality possible at the time and THEN priced accordingly.
The only way to "save money" when buyng them was to go for the
slower versions of the lenses.

There is nothing lacking in the quality of these lenses and Pentax
certainly could have made them cheaper quality to lower prices
but, thank God, they didnt.
