Hi all;
I finally dipped my toe into that rarified pool of LX owners and purchased
said camera via ebay for $465 including FA-1 finder and
50f2.0 m lens. No strap or lens cap. I thought this a pretty decent price.
Anyhow, one of the selling points to me was that it was advertised as being
"just serviced" lubed and adjusted, seals replaced.... As I eagerly ripped
it out of the package and tripped the shutter a few times, I noticed a
rather noisy mirror return. Looking inside, low and behold, no foam to
insulate the mirror shock!
The camera is in otherwise very good condition, just a bit of wear around
each strap lug, a minor scratch on the finder, bottom plate actually pretty
good. Other functions seem fine. I believe it is an older LX, although I
am not positive.
Could anyone give me an opinion on whether I have been had/whether it would
be a good idea to fix myself/what this might cost to replace by camera
person.
I also notice a bit of foam near the back of the mirror where it pivots. Is
this suppose to be there? It is small, about 1/4 inch long, 1/8 inch wide.
It is actually on the right wall as you face the front of the camera. Could
this be a remnant from a previous fix? On the left side, there is a sticky
area, maybe a bit of goo from old foam in about the same place.
If I would try to repair myself, what is the proper glue, what would clean
up the goo that is left? Where would one get the foam? My regrets in
advance for not copying advice on foam in the past, but I never needed that
advice before.
I know replacing the foam has come up before, so if people want to email me
personally so as not to bore the rest of the list, that would be fine with
me.
Any and all advice welcomed.
dave
