I would send it to Pentax for a go through, since they still work on them.
What are the first 3 or 4 serial numbers? There is a web page at:

that kind of gives you a rough idea when they were made.
You really will enjoy this masterpiece of a camera. Just do not get
addicted to the accessories <g>.

Thanks, Steve, I feel the need for accessories already!
I looked at the site you referenced above, and it mentions a roller that
when present can help determine the age of the camera. Are they refering to
the roller that would be on the back of the camera that would be right
around the take up spool? This LX does not have one.
Could you tell me what the two brass protrusions are below the pc sockets on
the front of the camera?
