Steve,

Get a used G2 and see for yourself - I'm always curious how the autofocus
is so "hit and miss" for a lot of people. As long as the subject is in the
focus frame and there's enough contrast it's a 'no brainer' for me to get
consistently good results.

With respect to flare and shooting with the lenses wide open; I've never
had any issues with any of them, including the 21mm f2.8. The only lenses
I have not tried are the 28mm and the 16mm.

The manual focus on the G2/G1 series isn't exactly great; I'd have to agree
but I was used to a "weird" manual focus from using the Canon G1 digital.
Really, I'd call the manual focus for the Contax G2/G1 more like
"manual-by-wire" since you don't actually focus using the lens. Here,
definitely the Leica or Bessa would have an advantage - once again though;
you'll have to remember that we're talking Rangefinders so how much
critical manual focussing (i.e. not taking macros with them) will you be
doing?

Cheers,
Dave

Really? That seems like a considerable disadvantage, to say the least.
Is this true for both manual and AF? Unfortunately, the price precludes
any serious consider consideration of the Lieicas. Bessa, anyone?

Having owned both systems I'd say that the significant advantage of the
Leica M
over the G system is that you can actually focus the lenses. The G2 is
hit and
miss, it's very difficult to maintain consistent results using the G
lenses
wide open, nice glass though.
